New Arrest and Deportation Guidelines for Immigration Agents
New Arrest and Deportation Guidelines for Immigration Agents
New directions were transferred to immigration agents by Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. He said that being undocumented should not be the only reason for detaining and deporting illegal immigrants.
The new rules, which took effect on November 29, tell the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers to not arrest and deport the farmworkers, the elderly, and others who do not pose a threat to national security.
The number of undocumented immigrants has dropped from 6,000 in December to 3,600 in August under Biden's administration. Biden is trying to ease the path of the citizenship process for immigrants which is faced by some disagreement from Republicans.
According to the new guidelines, ICE agents should not deport immigrants who are not violent and gang members or aggravated felons. Also, immigrants with minor crimes who are not a threat to public safety and have a family in the United States could be allowed to stay.
